On July 9th and July 11th, Teams and Bensham Community Care held two special open days to raise awareness of their work and to celebrate a grant award of £61,546 from the National Lottery Foundation's Reaching Communities programme, made possible by National Lottery Players.
The funding will help deliver the charity's popular Thursday men's group for a further two years, as well as reach more vulnerable older people so that they can access the range of preventative social activities that Teams and Bensham Community Care provides.
In addition to inviting NHS professionals and many public sector and third sector agencies to meet our team, view the facilities and hear about the benefits that attendees experience, the open day also marked the summer long celebrations leading up to the 25th anniversary of the National Lottery.
Thanks to National Lottery players, Teams and Bensham has been able to deliver many wonderful activities over the years for isolated and/or vulnerable older people in central and inner west Gateshead including a local memory book project, creation of a music video and the development of our men's group.
Teams and Bensham Community Care supports over 100 older people each year to help them to avoid or alleviate isolation and loneliness whilst creating strong social and support networks.
Commenting on the award, Michelle Scott (Trustee) said:-
"We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery Players, especially during a very special year for the National Lottery. We are excited to share the success of our two year project along the way and to benefit the lives of more older people in our community."
Teams and Bensham Community Care is a registered charity supporting older people in Gateshead to alleviate and prevent the ill-effects of isolation and vulnerability. For almost three decades, we have provided lunch clubs, men’s groups, art and activities every weekday in our welcoming and accessible centre for up to 25 people each day. Our on-site cooks create traditional, freshly cooked meals and desserts as well as freshly baked goods for our beneficiaries to take home. On the last Sunday of every month, our walking group meets and travels together for walks that are up to 7 miles long, at a variety of picturesque locations in the North of England.
