Back in November 2022, the Teams and Bensham Community Care charity celebrated after receiving £2,500 from the Inman Charity to help local older people to improve their physical wellbeing.
The charity, established in 1990 in Gateshead, used the funding to introduce two new weekly activities, Bowls for Health at the men's group, and an Active Forever class at our lunch club. Both classes have been provided by the amazing team at Active Families NE CIC.
Alongside the new sessions, Teams and Bensham Community Care continues to provide three lunch clubs, and two men's groups every week at their warm, welcoming centre on Bolam Street, Teams. Each group is a great opportunity to spend time with others, enjoy a hot two course meal and take part in a wide range of activities. To make it easy to get to and from the centre, the charity provides door to door minibus transport in the area too!
The funding from the Inman Charity, which distributes grants to a range of causes, led to 82 sessions being delivered in total and was enjoyed by up to 20 people each session.
Teams and Bensham Community Care told us:
"When our groups restarted after the pandemic, people's confidence, positivity and emotional wellbeing grew very quickly as a result of being connected and seeing each other face-to-face again. Physical health and mobility was much slower to improve, so the sessions have brought so many benefits to our friends here at the centre. The activities have been well loved, and the atmosphere Active Families NE CIC bring to each session has been wonderful."
The beneficial sessions have been such a great success, that the charity has secured further funding to continue to deliver a further 30 sessions.
