Doreen's Retirement and 85th Birthday Celebrations

Updated: Jul 25, 2019

On 26th June we wished our friend Doreen a happy 85th birthday and a happy retirement after three decades of working and volunteering for Teams and Bensham Community Care.

Doreen

We welcomed friends to join us at lunch club centre on Bolam Street, Teams, for a special celebration and a lovely day was had by all who attended.

Charity chairman, Brian, gave a speech to thank Doreen for her many years of dedication, support and friendship. He spoke of the fond memories of working with Doreen's husband too, who also spent many years with the charity.

Mayor of Gateshead, Michael Hood, also attended to thank Doreen for her length of service and presented her with a beautiful bunch of flowers. Councillor Hood has been a supporter of our work for many years, including as a Trustee of Foundations Furniture.

After presenting Doreen with her many gifts and cards, she was given a wonderful, personalised cake from Lynn Ivison who has volunteered and supported Teams and Bensham Community Care for two years through her role as Community Life Colleague at Asda Metrocentre.

After cake and a toast to Doreen, we had live entertainment to sing along (and dance) to.

Happy birthday and retirement to Doreen from all of us at Teamwork!

Teams and Bensham Community Care is a registered charity supporting older people in Gateshead to alleviate and prevent the ill-effects of isolation and vulnerability. For almost three decades, we have provided lunch clubs, men’s groups, art and activities every weekday in our welcoming and accessible centre for up to 25 people each day. Our on-site cooks create traditional, freshly cooked meals and desserts as well as freshly baked goods for our beneficiaries to take home. On the last Sunday of every month, our walking group meets and travels together for walks that are up to 7 miles long, at a variety of picturesque locations in the North of England.
