The Teams and Bensham Community Care lunch club attendees swapped one of the nations favourite meals for another!
Steak pie and chips, followed by sponge and custard or fish and chips?
It's a difficult decision to make, but 7th June 2019 was a day dedicated to fish and chips so we decided a trip to the wonderful Colman's of South Shields and it was a perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon.
We always love a trip to Colman's. The food fantastic, they look after us very well and it's fully accessible for everyone.
Our trip out was timed perfectly with the annual National Fish and Chip Day of 2019, a date set throughout the country to celebrate the tasty dish, but to also recognise the fish and chip shops and restaurants as well as the farmers and fishermen who provide the ingredients to make it.
Living in Gateshead, we have access to shops, countryside and coastline just a minibus ride away. Colman's is located at the seaside, a 25 minute drive from our centre, and that can only mean one thing... a few scoops of ice cream before setting off for home.
Teams and Bensham Community Care is a registered charity supporting older people in Gateshead to alleviate and prevent the ill-effects of isolation and vulnerability. For almost three decades, we have provided lunch clubs, men’s groups, art and activities every weekday in our welcoming and accessible centre for up to 25 people each day. Our on-site cooks create traditional, freshly cooked meals and desserts as well as freshly baked goods for our beneficiaries to take home. On the last Sunday of every month, our walking group meets and travels together for walks that are up to 7 miles long, at a variety of picturesque locations in the North of England.
