Celebrating 25 Years of The National Lottery

Teamwork's family of community and charitable organisations look back on the positive impact of The National Lottery funding in Gateshead.

Every third sector organisation within our Trust has been able to deliver many valued projects over the years thanks to National Lottery players.

This week, on 29th October, our staff, volunteers and beneficiaries joined together to take part in The National Lottery's Crossed Fingers Selfie Day, to share our thanks for everything that The National Lottery Community Fund has helped us to achieve, which wouldn't be possible without National Lottery players.

Without funding over the years, our services would look very different today. We couldn't have helped as many of the thousands of local people who access vital and life changing support from us each year. We also could not have created as many employment, training and volunteering opportunities which has helped many households, and our local economy.

Support from the National Lottery has allowed us to deliver memory, music, art and many more activities for isolated, vulnerable older people who visit the lunch clubs at Teams and Bensham Community Care who would otherwise not be able to access such well-being enhancing opportunities.

What's more, we've also been able to provide a much loved men's group for older gentlemen. The gents who come along were struggling to engage in services, but we're experiencing, or at high risk of, the ill effects of loneliness. They now access a freshly cooked and hearty hot meal in the company of others, who they can share their stories with, relax with the daily newspaper, or take part in a game of dominoes or even a friendly competition on the Nintendo Wii U Console.

Happy to Help, our traditional home help Community Interest Company, has been able to deliver befriending services to Gateshead's most isolated older residents and people with disabilities, as well as much needed social care.

Foundations, our community furniture charity, has been able to support thousands of people in hardship to lead safe, settled and stable home lives as a result of funding from The National Lottery, including people and families in absolute poverty who are rebuilding their lives after homelessness, fleeing from abuse and violence any many other distressing circumstances.

On behalf of everyone at Teamwork, thank you to each and every National Lottery player who helps charities and community services like ours to make a difference.
