Foundations is Helping More People in Hardship

On 3rd June 2019 Foundations Furniture introduced changes so that they can help more Gateshead residents experiencing hardship and struggling to afford furniture. 

Since 1996, the charity has supported thousands of people in Gateshead to create safe, settled and comfortable home lives during times of financial struggle.

In the last 22 years, people who were in receipt of an income-based benefit could access pre-loved furniture at low, charitable prices.

In recent months, the charity has worked closely with The Gateshead Housing Company and Gateshead Council's Rent and Income Team to assess our impact and make sure that anyone who needs support in the borough, can receive it quickly and easily.

To ensure the charity is supporting everyone in hardship, for any reason, receiving a benefit is no longer the only criteria for accessing support. 

Speaking of the changes Project Manager, Bernie Gill, said "this change will enable many more Gateshead residents to access help from Foundations. It is open now to people who not only claim benefits, but people who are on a low wage or in financial hardship for any reason. We are looking forward to making a positive difference to many more households in our community."

Foundations will continue to have items that anyone can buy including the high quality, affordable brand-new beds and mattresses that are available in-store. You can also support the charity by purchasing items from Facebook Marketplace where they sell a fantastic range of vintage items.

Sales from new beds and items on Marketplace help Foundations to raise vital funds so that they can continue to support thousands of local people in need each year.
