Foundation 4 Work

Updated: Aug 5, 2019

Foundations has been awarded funding to begin an exciting new project to help local people to gain work experience whilst accessing training and support to be able to confidently seek employment or self employment opportunities.

Over the last two decades Foundations Furniture has supported many volunteers, in an informal way, to search for vacancies and to apply with a strong CV or application form, and to prepare for interviews.

Thanks to funding from the European Social Fund via Gateshead Council's Community Led Local Development initiative, the charity can now deliver a full programme of support for up to 12 weeks per person.

Participants can access work experience in a warehouse and retail setting as well as one-to-one training, advice and guidance from our skilled advisors to learn more about any, or all, of the following areas:-

-search for jobs

-create a strong CV

-write an application form

-prepare for interviews

-self employment.

Each participant will work with our advisors to gain the skills and confidence they need, creating their very own personalised 'job readiness' toolkit that is theirs to keep. This means that trainees can continue on their journey independently after their programme ends to become employed or self employed. A free pair of work boots and a high vis waistcoat is also available to each trainee, as well as references from our charity.

Participants must be unemployed, of working age and live in the catchment area. Eligible postcodes are listed here.

To find out more or to secure your place, call or text 07851 478548. The phone is answered Monday to Friday between 10am to 12 noon and 12:30pm to 2:30pm. If calling outside of these times, please leave a message and we will return your call or text us for a call back. The last date for enrolment is 18th December 2019.

The project is part funded by the European Social Fund via Gateshead Goes Local as part of the 2014-2020 European and Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England. The fund helps local areas to stimulate their economic development by investing in projects like Foundations that can support skills development, employment and job creation, social inclusion and local community regeneration.

Foundations is a registered charity (1090034) that collects unwanted, usable furniture and electrical items from across Tyne and Wear to help Gateshead residents in hardship who struggle to afford to furnish their homes. We also provide opportunities for local people to volunteer to stay connected, gain new skills and experience, and to help support the community.
